Waiting in Hope – a Community Christmas celebration of the coming of Christ our Saviour took place on the 10th December in the Church of the Descent of the Holy Spirit Dennehy’s Cross, and the choir was delighted to play a part in this Spiritual event presented by the Jubilee Bells Handbell Choir. The unfolding of the Christmas story was portrayed by choirs and readers from the community and visiting groups: Polyphonics Barbershop Chorus and the Carpe Diem String Quartet from Cork School of Music.
For our opening piece ‘O Come O Come Emmanuel the Choir were joined by the Jubilee Bells Handbell Choir to give a very striking version of this David Willcocks arrangement.
Other pieces performed to embellish the unfolding story were:
Gabriel’s Message (a Basque Carol), Vivaldi’s Gloria, Angels we have heard on high, Novello’s arrangement of Adeste Fideles and finally a very beautiful Carol that the choir were really looking forward to performing for the first time – ‘All Bells in Paradise’ by John Rutter.
Our Musical Director Richard Rudkins brought the proceedings to a close with a very beautiful organ solo ‘Festive Trumpet Tune by David German.
